Any plans? I'm all for buying the app and working to convince the admins of the forums I visit to install the server part (none currently have) but I'd like to know that it's worthwhile before doing so.

no offense but that just doesn't make any sense to me. are peeps that hard up to spend 2.99 for a forum owner to add it to their site?

its free to add server side. then you let ur members go buy the app. i told mine i will reimburse them the 2.99 via paypal or give them a free month subscription to the site.

I see both sides of it, but when you look at from the prospective of a LITE version, you are not really getting to test the full functionality of the app, so the main reasoning is kind of shot right there.

The other thing to keep in mind is that if the forum you are a member of doesn't have the plugin installed, you aren't going to be able to test it there anyway.

As for a full functioning trial version, that could be an idea I guess, but I haven't seen any trials in the app store, so I am not sure if that is possible or not.

I don't run a board - I visit them. While $3 is not much money it's wasted if none of the boards I visit have the server software installed - which none do. I would be happy to campaign the admins of the boards I frequent to install the server app If this app was something I wanted to use. It's sorta the chicken and the egg problem.

Many apps in the store have lite versions which limit functionality to give the user the opportunity to try them. That's all I'm looking for here. Heck even a lite version that only allowed access to a specic site (such as this one) would be enough for try the program and determine if it's something they want to purchase.

ahh i see ur not a forum owner. got ya

well you can use the app to join new sites also then you will be able to see how the app works. that would also give you a leg to stand on when u speak with the admins of the. you can take screen shots of what the app does.

i can see if the app was 10 bucks.

its cool to see a non board owner joining and giving some input.

I think you just proposed a fantastic idea.

Jman is right that give out a lite version for limited functionality doesn't make the app shines, especially most of the core features are only available AFTER you login to a specific forum (i.e. Latest Posts, Subscribed Topics and up-coming Private Messaging).

Apple does not allow "Trail" version and no mechanism in place for "expired app" like Shareware.

However what you suggest is that we can provide a Free version of Tapatalk that can connect to THIS forum only - indeed we had this idea but just didn't find the time to do it. Maybe it is worthwhile to do it now as the membership here grows. :)

That is the best version of this idea... But wouldn't that be difficult when it comes to getting it in the app store?

i think thats a shot in the foot

peeps will get the lite version and get pissed its only for this forum.

Well, if they want access to other sites, they need to pay, just like all of the other LITE and PRO versions of apps in the app store.

yeah im not sure how to make a lite version of tapatalk.

i already saw one pissed off customer write a bad review, and i have a feeling he didnt have any accounts to any of the sites he saw, so it was just a reading experience for him.

however you CAN click the register button through tapatalk to set up an account at any of the sites on the network, and then visit them again in tapatalk, but i digress

bad reviews deter peeps. i had a member on my site not wanting to download it cause it had one star. haha im like damn you know ive been testing the app out and vouch for it. yet he still was hesitant cause of the one star. so imagine what peeps who know nothing think when they see it.

the only way it would work is if they were allowed to use the full version for x amount of days. this has already been done via an app on the app store or cydia. i don't remember ha

yeah and its even better if the board has the iphone style efferno put out.

I think the app looks fun but the challenge is twofold. First of all, as a forum owner I have to deal with a lot of non-iPhone mobile phones. I'm going to be developing a mobile version anyways. Regarding tapatalk, which I think is great, some of my users will not care to spend extra money just to purchase an application to use my forums. For some reason the $0.99 barrier is a high one to overcome on iTunes unless it has significant utility.

If there was a lite version, perhaps only reading posts so that people get a taste of what it can do on the iPhone. Then they can decide if they want to buy it to get the enhanced functionality.

As an iPhone owner, the reason why I don't care to spend money on stuff like tapatalk without a lite version is the risk factor. So many iPhone applications are miserable and you only find out after you purchase. I haven't even used it yet and have been waiting to see the comments. For all I know, the forums I visit most aren't even using tapatalk and unless forum owners get something in return, many aren't incentivized.

So returning to my point, at least a read only lite version would be a reasonable and needed teaser for people to test run the application.

The idea posted here regarding a lite version would help I believe. Make it the only site they can visit would be the tapatalk forum that way users and future forum owners Can see what it's all about.

Yes this is the direction we are heading to - but will wait until our app becomes really a killer app (stable; push + image upload) until we are ready to do this promotion.

Right now we focus on making it better :)

    I respect that.

Look forward to seeing it evolve.

    Best of luck guys.
